HETEROSEXUAL | IRISH |

ILLEGAL ARMS DEALER | EXPLOSIVES EXPERT |
PERSONALITY
RELIGIOUS.
ADVENTUROUS.[/i] before ethan joined scar, his job required him to travel around quite a bit. if it wasn't for the benefits, ethan would have left scar a long time ago. he's not easily tied down and it's probably the reason he can't keep a normal relationship. however, he does enjoy having someone to go take along on his small adventures. now that the world is practically abandoned, ethan would love nothing more than to travel. leaving scar would mean his death though, so for now, ethan keeps himself happy by causing trouble around the base. if possible, he'll manage to get out for a day or two just to wander around the empty city.
COMPETITIVE.[/i] even if it's just a race to the end of the hallway, you can bet that ethan will be the first one there. he always has to be the best of the best and he will do just about anything to make that happen. ethan is not the most admirable competitor either and he fights dirty. if he has to punch someone in the kidney to win a race, he sure as hell will. it's very easy to provoke ethan simply by inflaming his sense of competition. ethan is not good at thinking things through when his reputation is on the line. his need to win everything does make him stupid at times. he also has the bad habit of making things competitive, even when they shouldn't be.
HONEST.[/i] while it may seem like an admirable quality, ethan manages to make it seem despicable. ethan doesn't believe in lying and he doesn't quite understand how to sugarcoat things. his brutal honesty doesn't earn him many friends and gains him far more enemies. he doesn't actively try and offend people, but his inability to lie makes him rather blunt, a quality most people don't appreciate. while ethan tries to contain himself, he doesn't have a filter and it's difficult for him. still, if ethan sees that he has offended someone, he will try to offer some sort of apology. to his superiors, ethan's honesty often comes off as defiance and it doesn't make him popular with scar personnel.
ARROGANT.[/i] there are very few people who can do what ethan is capable of. his extensive knowledge in his area of expertise makes him incredibly cocky. it's not to say his arrogance doesn't come with good reason, but it does not make him any friends. ethan knows that scar will have a difficult time replacing him, especially now. if anything, it's made him more pretentious. unless someone is a quick learner, ethan will put forward little to no effort into teaching them. ethan has very little patience for others. he's used to doing everything by himself and his strong personality does not make him a good team player.
DANGEROUS.[/i] as a man who works with explosives, and made a living selling weapons, it's easy to see why ethan is considered dangerous. he gets quite the thrill from watching things blow up and casualties are just a part of the job. ethan will kill with little regret and he's very efficient at it. it's rather easy for ethan to make enemies, but very few of them try to pick a fight with him. those that do, usually regret it. he has little patience for others, especially those that he finds annoying. even if he does work for scar, ethan will find a way to get back at those that anger him. HISTORY
THE BOY. both ethan's parents grew up in a small town in ireland and knew each other from a young age. his father used to tease his mother on the playground and she would get him in trouble. as they grew up, they found their own friends, but didn't stop hanging out with each other. they were close friends and eventually, they began seeing each other as something more than friends. the two of them were married when they were twenty-two and had twin boys soon after. it was the first of many children. ethan was the third born out of the nine children in the family. needless to say, ethan grew up in a very chaotic environment. things were never dull in the callaghan house. as one of the oldest, ethan typically found himself taking care of the other children. his two older brothers did everything together and ethan always tagged along with them.
with so many other children, the three oldest boys were allowed to do pretty much what they wanted. giving that much freedom to the young boys was a mistake. they constantly found themselves in trouble and blamed for everything that went wrong. though, most of the time, they were the reason things went wrong. still, every sunday they were in church and other than the occasional mistake, the three of them were perfect angels when they were being watched. once ethan started school though, it was a different story. without his brothers, ethan was a bit more reserved. the other children weren't as intimidated of him without his brothers to back him up. soon enough, ethan didn't spend time playing after school and he spent most of his time at home, helping with the other children. the twins didn't help out much at home, so ethan took the responsibility.
at the age of twelve, he had more responsibility than most adults did. while his parents worked, ethan did his best to take care of his younger siblings. when he did have time to himself, ethan liked to wander outside with his slingshot, pretending to be lost in the wilderness. it was one of these small adventures when ethan ran into their neighbor. he was an old war veteran that they had always tried to avoid. however, when ethan accidentally shot a rock through his window, he had no choice but to confront the old man. at first, the man started to yell at him, but once he saw the slingshot in ethan's hand, it was all childhood and war stories. ethan was fascinated and he found himself sitting there, listening to the man talk for hours. soon, everyday after school, ethan headed to his house just to listen to the man talk.
it started with just stories, but eventually there was old war memorabilia being shown and before he knew it, the man was teaching ethan how to make simple explosives. unable to contain his excitement, ethan told his older brothers about what he had learn. naturally, they had to build their own pipe bomb and detonate it. luckily, they were smart enough to do it in a clearing. while no one was hurt, the explosion was loud enough to draw the attention of the police and most of the town. the entire situation caused a huge commotion and all three of the boys were in trouble. they spent most of the day in the police station being yelled at and when their parents came, there was more yelling. the only reason they didn't end up with records was because they agreed to spend the entire summer cleaning the town.
despite the punishment, it was well worth it and the boys didn't stop there. while they were forbidden from seeing the old man, they didn't listen. all it did was make them smarter about hiding their little experiments. while it was only for fun, they were soon approached by someone who needed their talents. it was a strange request, but the boys thought nothing of it and for a small fee, they supplied him with explosives. before long, the man was back and the boys learned they had accidentally ended up in arms business. they were soon supplying a small military group with explosives and they got supplies from them. the twins were eighteen and as the business expanded, the three of them left school. with the money that was coming in, their parents didn't question what their kids were up to.
THE MAN. together, the three of them sent enough money home to support the family and keep a very decent lifestyle. they soon found the demand for weapons was high and their business expanded to selling any illegal weapons. as long as there was a need, the callaghan boys would be there. it got to the point where it didn't matter who they were selling to, as long as the money was coming in. the money got to their heads and they became reckless. even though they were traveling through warzones and making enemies, they were immature. there was no one to watch the boys once again, but this time, they weren't about to get away with it. while in the middle of a transaction, one of the twins insulted a warlord and ended up getting gunned down. ethan and the other twin barely managed to escape with their lives.
the twin was devastated by his loss and flew back home to be with the family. two years later, he killed himself. this left ethan with the entire weapons empire at the young age of twenty-three. if there was anything learned from watching his older brother die, ethan became smarter about how he conducted his business. ethan was no longer present for transactions. he spent most of his time studying explosives and learning his way around them. before long, ethan was designing his own weapons and becoming notorious in his own way. his family was well off and he could provide for his parent's retirement. while he was a wanted man, ethan found that money could get him a long way. he could pay people off to keep their mouth shut.
as the business grew, ethan had to do less work. he began spending more time with his families, watching his siblings get married and have children. it wasn't for ethan though. he wasn't capable of dedicating himself to one person. he enjoyed traveling too much and meeting different people. his irish roots ensured that he managed to get completely drunk in every single country he visited. eventually, ethan didn't even have to worry about the money or weapons, he could spend all his time traveling. while ethan was out having fun, he was completely unaware that he was being watched by scar. they were buying out most of his stock, but through ways that would never be traced to one single corporation. ethan never questioned the sales and never realized his designs were being copied.
by the time ethan had any remote idea that something was wrong, he was having a black bag shoved over his head and he was being pushed into a unmarked vehicle. ethan was ready to fight back, thinking that he was about to be killed. however, when they finally managed to stop him from kicking someone in the face, ethan was given a job offer. an accidental explosion had left a couple openings in the explosives department. while ethan wanted to turn the job down, the only other option was ending up dead in a ditch. he wasn't happy about the idea, but ethan took the job anyway. ethan always had problems with authority and his first couple years with scar was difficult. if it wasn't for the fact that ethan was good at his job, scar would have disposed of him a long time ago.
his religion and cold nature didn't gain ethan many friends, but he started to appreciate the job more as the years went on. moving to san francisco was a huge change for him, but it was some place he had never visited. despite all the hatred he had, ethan couldn't deny that he was given everything he wanted. it was a playground for any explosives expert. when he found things to blow up, a small group of them would get together, drink and blow things up. right up to the infection, ethan was still unpopular with his superiors, but he was doing what he loved and he couldn't complain about it. that much.
THE FALL. locked up with scar, ethan did not experience the infection like the rest of the people. he watched the world fall through a small television, trapped in a room with fifteen other people. at first, ethan tried to escape. his first thought was to run and save his family. however, he was stopped and shoved into a small room with the others who had tried to run. ethan could do nothing to stop the troops that scar sent out. he was incredibly bitter when they were finally let out of the room, but he couldn't go anywhere. there was nothing left outside for them to go to. ethan's only choice was to stay with scar.
a few days after everything had fallen, there were a few 'accidental' explosions around base. it was the extent of ethan's revenge, but he's still thinking of ways to get back. if he had the chance, ethan would run, but he's unsure of where to go. he has absolutely no way of knowing whether his family is still alive, but ethan is assuming the worst. for now, he continues working with his explosives and blowing things up when he gets bored.
INVENTORY
[/i] kept around his ankle, ethan rarely uses the knife. it's almost brand new, but he still keeps it around. more often than not, the knife ends up being used to clean his fingernails. sometimes, if ethan is bored enough, he'll pull the knife out to try and practice his knife throwing skills. 9MM BERETTA.[/i] no one in scar can be trusted and when it all goes to shit, ethan wants to be sure that he has a reliable gun. he knows the gun like the back of his hand and can recognize it from touch. the gun has been with him a long time and ethan knows every imperfection in the gun's design that makes it uniquely his. he's also a deadly accurate shot and quite proud of the fact.
FRAG GRENADE.[/i] there really is no need to carry around a grenade, other than for showing off. ethan never intends on using the weapon, but the sight of it is enough to keep most people at a safe radius. he keeps it more for intimidation purposes. if he's ever in the field though, the grenade offers an easy distraction if his back is against the wall.
ROSARY BEADS.[/i] for counting all the hail mary's during prayer, the rosary bead is ethan's most prized possession. it belonged to his father and was passed down to him. ethan keeps the necklace around his neck, under his shirt. he rarely takes the rosary beads off and if he does, ethan keeps track of its location at all times.
