PERSONALITY
RESOURCEFUL.
FLIRT.[/i] before the fallout, oliver spent just about every night with a different woman. at this point, it's part of his nature to flirt with anyone who will give him the time. it doesn't help that his ego makes oliver believe that he's incredibly attractive and too charming for anyone to reject. oliver just enjoys being the center of attention too, so it's an adjustment to spending months without talking to anyone. perhaps it's the lack of human contact, but it's impossible for oliver to keep himself from hitting on any woman he meets. generally, he doesn't mean much with his flirting, it's just his way to avoid any serious conversation. oliver doesn't expect anyone to be attracted to him, so despite his teasing, he doesn't recognize when people actually like him.
LOST.[/i] as a child, oliver was constantly surrounded by people. he made friends rather easily and with a large family, it was rare to see him on his own. even his lifestyle before consisted of parties and movie sets, giving oliver very little time to be alone. the sudden shift to being absolutely alone has left oliver with an overwhelming feeling of abandonment. while he keeps up a very positive outlook to those he meets, oliver is desperate for company. though he helps get survivors to grim's row, oliver finds himself secretly hoping that someone will stay out there with him. it's probably why he tries so hard to impress the people he meets.
SELFLESS.[/i] no one is forcing oliver to stay on the mainland by himself; it's a choice he's made for himself. while partially motivated by the hope that he will be reunited with his family, oliver stays to help others find their way to grim's row. he realizes that other people have their own reasons for trying to stay alive and while he may not be able to see his family, he's hoping to help others find their loved ones. off the island, he keeps himself busy by making runs to stock up on supplies. oliver has quite a bit of time and he's made an extensive map of san francisco, keeping track of places he's already hit. plus, he's kept track of scar's movements. oliver is the one to go to if there's any question about navigating san francisco.
IMPULSIVE.[/i] while oliver has managed to keep his impulsive behavior under control, sometimes it causes him to make rash decisions. there are times when he just needs to feel that adrenaline rush. his previous job as a stunt double was enough to feed his need, but now, sometimes going for a run without weapons is the only way to keep himself on his toes. it's very rare he'll have to do something that drastic, usually running for supplies is good enough, but there are times when he gets bored. repeating the same routine each day is just something that oliver is not used to and he has to keep himself entertained somehow. oliver's come to terms with the fact that his impulsive nature will get him in trouble somewhere down the road.
TRUSTING.[/i] considering there's always a risk of being killed by other survivors, oliver is surprisingly trusting. he's rather good at reading people though, so it's never been a problem for him. before oliver tries to help any survivors, he usually follows them for a few days. while he is trusting, oliver is also very cautious about the people he meets. it can be a negative thing though, he opens himself up for the possibility of being deceived. there are a few people that can trick him, but rather than be suspicious, oliver is more likely to offer supplies. his knowledge of san francisco keeps him somewhat careful when it comes to other people, but it's something he needs to work on. HISTORY
THE BOY.
oliver's parents had decided after three children, they weren't going to have anymore kids. it wasn't until fifteen years after the birth of their first child, that they had oliver. with four kids, soon after oliver was born, both of his parents were working full-time and it was up to his sisters to raise him. in a way, they all took care of each other. up until she left for college, oliver's older sister was responsible for babysitting oliver. their neighbor would watch him when the other siblings had to go to school. by the time emily moved out, it was zoey's responsibility to get oliver ready every morning. zoey was the rebellious child and her personality largely overshadowed that of oliver and amelia. the two of them merely followed zoey in all her little adventures, even though most of them ended up with all three of them in trouble.
soon enough, zoey had made her own friends in school and it was amelia's turn to take care of oliver. things were much calmer and they were more likely to spend time reading comic books (well, oliver liked the pictures). eventually, after emily graduated, she came back home to help take care of the youngest children and keep zoey in line. even though oliver liked going to school, he wasn't the best at making friends and he preferred spending time with his family. at the age of eleven, amelia was ready to join zoey at college and emily was getting married. this meant that oliver was mostly alone at home. he was old enough to take care of himself, but he still wasn't the best with communicating with other people. he never really made friends and instead, spent most of his time reading comic books and watching horror movies. needless to say, oliver was a strange kid to most.
it didn't help that he was slightly asthmatic and his growth spurt didn't happen until late into high school. the only place oliver ever felt comfortable was in the theater. he was never much for acting, but he liked being behind the scenes. high school drama wasn't exactly known for its seriousness, but oliver fit in with the rest of the kids. for once, oliver had found others who appreciated his love for movies. by his senior year, getting shoved into lockers wasn't as bad anymore. oliver had bigger dreams of making it in hollywood and being pushed around was fine by him. money was tight in the family, but oliver was set on making the move. he started working the second he was legally allowed to. though most of his money went to helping the family out, oliver managed to save up enough money.
THE MAN.[/i] he was getting ready to make the move when his mother first got sick. while oliver wanted to leave as soon as possible, he couldn't leave his mother behind. spending day after day with her in the hospital made him incredibly health conscious. almost everybody in the family was working to pay off medical bills. two years after she was diagnosed with cancer, she passed away. oliver did not take her death well and refused to leave home for a few months. finally, zoey, having just moved to los angeles, offered oliver a room in her apartment if he would actively try to pursue his dreams. even oliver couldn't refuse and slowly, he began to integrate himself back into reality.
once in los angeles, oliver began finding work anywhere he could, as long as it was connected to the movie industry. there were a few roles as an extra, or helping out as an assistant, but nothing major. meanwhile, most of his off-time was spent at the gym. oliver started to notice the change in himself and the people around him noticed too. it was easier to get into clubs and once he was in, it was easier to pick up women. oliver let quite a bit of it get to his head. after having a few too many drunken one-night stands, his sister finally told him to get his own place. his first apartment was barely legally an actually living complex. without a steady job though, it was the best that he could do. oliver made do by spending the nights at different houses, depending on who he went home with that night.
when he was twenty-three, oliver got his first big break. he was at a nightclub and having arrived a bit late, he was the only sober one at the party. the woman he was hitting on made no mention of a boyfriend and as oliver was getting ready to leave with her, the boyfriend made an appearance. oliver had taken a few self-defense lessons which seemed to come in handy. it was nothing fancy, but with the bit of alcohol in his system, oliver felt invincible. he was showing off and in this case, it happened to be a good thing. after all of them were kicked out of the cub and told never to return, oliver was approached by an agent. they were looking for a stunt double and while oliver had no experience, he was more than willing to take the job.
there were perks with having a steady job. he was getting paid to learn how to fight and essentially, do stupid things the safe way. oliver finally moved out of his crappy apartment into a place with hot water. his neighbor was an avid weapons collector, but other than that, it was perfect. the only downside to his job was the occasional injury, but a few broken bones here and there was worth it. while it wasn't the job that oliver originally wanted, it was the best he could ask for. besides, he met enough people that if he ever came out with a good script, he knew who to call. oliver didn't see his family at much, but that didn't mean they lost contact. all of them still tried to get together a couple times a year at least. that and oliver always had a missed call from at least one of them.
THE FALL.[/i] having his materialistic life ripped away from him, grounded oliver really quickly. he had been at the gym when the infection first started. at first, he heard it on the news, but it sounded like nothing more than a new drug that people had been abusing. by the time anybody realized how bad it was, it was too late. there was a state of complete panic and oliver scrambled to pack the necessities. for a while, he hid out with his crazy neighbor, but when he ran out screaming, oliver packed a couple of weapons and took off. his training on set gave him a slight advantage and a small knowledge about weapons. he managed to talk to his family a few times before all phone connection was lost. zoey was living in san francisco at the time and it was the first place oliver headed.
once he got into the city, he realized how bad it really was. if there was a chance his sister was in the city, she was either dead or gone. still, he had told the rest of his family to meet there and so oliver stayed, waiting for them. along the way, he met a few survivors, heading to a place called grim's row. when they were getting ready to leave, oliver offered to stay behind and help anyone else find their way there. that was how he started his job of helping survivors find their way to the island. oliver has now claimed an empty warehouse as his own. he's set up a system of tracking supplies down and when he needs to, trading with those on the island to get what he needs. it's not perfect, but oliver still believes his family is out there and he's willing to wait for them. INVENTORY
15" HUNTING KNIFE. luckily, oliver's neighbor was an avid hunter and when the infection first started, he was one of the first to go. assuming that he would have no use for his weapons, oliver has 'borrowed' them. he doesn't have much experience with the knife, but enough to know where the pointy end goes.
SAWED-OFF PUMP SHOTGUN. another item from his neighbor's collection, the shotgun is easy to carry around. while oliver is not the greatest shot, the gun offers a wide range, which helps with his accuracy. he prefers not to use the gun. more often than not, the shotgun is only used as a method of intimidation.
CANVAS BACKPACK. since oliver doesn't have a permanent home, he's often on the move. most of his belonging are packed into the backpack. there's always a change of clothes, food, and water. he always carries around a first aid kit. in the case he runs into anyone who needs help, there's always enough supplies to share.
