espite his attempt to ration, ben was almost of out pills. he had been out the week earlier, but it was impossible to keep up with his habit. as of last night, he had two pills left, but after being unable to sleep, ben had downed them both. the withdrawal symptoms had started early that morning. he had skipped his morning rounds and instead, spent his time curled up in his bathtub. while the bullets had been removed from his body, the pain still remained. ben could no longer tell if the pain was real, or if it was imagined. either way, he felt far worse than usual. still, no matter how he felt, ben knew that it would be no excuse for skipping out on his rounds. one of their weekly meetings was scheduled for later than day and ben knew he would have to make himself somewhat presentable. he was sure that max knew about his drug habit, but so far it hadn't affected his duties on the island.
at first, ben only managed to pull himself out of the tub in the hopes that there were still some pills in his room. he practically tore apart the place, trying to find a stash that he had possibly forgotten about. however, all he found were two empty prescription bottles. furious with his inability to hold himself together, ben had picked up his tomahawk and thrown it at a wall. seeing the tomahawk imbedded into his wall had done nothing for his mood. eventually, all he could do was swallow some advil and hope for the best. ben was going to get an earful for skipping on his morning rounds, but he didn't care. with a glare, ben had walked into the room they had designated for meetings and took his spot. he was hoping that no one would draw the conversation towards him. even if anyone had asked him anything, ben was too preoccupied with trying not to make his shaking seem less obvious. as the others talked, his focus was elsewhere and his gaze on the table. one his arms was wrapped around his ribcage, putting pressure on his old wound. it was impossible hot in the room and ben couldn't hide the fact that he was sweating.
the meeting seemed to drag on and when ben was finally brought into the conversation, his mind was not there. it was only when he realized that the talk had stopped, did he realize that someone was talking to him. swallowing hard, ben looked up and met max's gaze for a moment. he had no idea what had been asked of him, but ben nodded in agreement, hoping that it would be enough. little did he know, ben had just agreed to help out with the training session later. the nod seemed to be draw attention away from him again. this time though, ben made a little more effort to try and focus on what they were talking about. ben could only catch brief bits of the conversation, it was all his attention span would allow for. he really was trying his best to stay focused, but sometimes ben would find himself just zoning out without meaning to. when they started talking about the next mission, someone mentioned heading into the edge of scar territory to raid the buildings nearby. ben couldn't help but scoff.
"please, scar would put you down faster than one of the infected," he growled, shaking his head.
